Read Synopsis:

Captain Nathan Algren is a man adrift. The battles he once fought now seem distant and futile. Once he risked his life for honor and country, but, in the years since the Civil War, the world has changed.
He is Katsumoto, the last leader of an ancient line of warriors, the venerated Samurai, who dedicated their lives to serving emperor and country. Just as the modern way encroached upon the American West, cornering and condemning the Native American, it also happened in Japan. The telegraph lines and railroads that brought progress now threaten those values and codes by which the Samurai have lived and died for centuries. But Katsumoto will not go without a fight.
As Algren is hired to train Japan's first modern army, he finds himself unexpectedly impressed and influenced by his encounters with the Samurai. Their powerful convictions remind him of the man he once was. Thrust now into harsh and unfamiliar territory, with his life and his soul, the troubled American soldier finds himself at the center of a violent and epic struggle between two eras and two worlds, with only his sense of honor to guide him.

The way of Samurai life has been showed amazingly in this movie. High discipline, full of smile, and peace are something they do everyday, which is contradictory with the image of samurai. The samurai's leader, Katsumoto, was very tough and wise leader, played very well by Ken Watanabe. This leader like conversation so much and acted funny on a stage also. A kind of very amazing leader, I think.
Nathan Algren, the main character, was played perfectly by Tom Cruise. Looks like he gave a lot of effort to play this movie. From learned to speak Japanese, learned to play kendo (martial art for samurai-like), until old-Japanese's way of life. The way he fought against four assassins was amazing.
The spirit of samurai also showed when they fought bitterly with Japanese government army who use machine guns and cannons at the end of the movie.
The story has been written properly from the first fight until the last fight, the intensity was increasing. The ending of the movie was satisfactorily. One more thing, the music arrangement is very nice...
Actually, it's another story of American hero in another foreign country. But anyway, this is a very good movie.
